Lack of Sleep and Weight Gain

We have all been guilty at time for reaching for that third cup of coffee in the break room just to stay awake. Even the second donut at the co-worker's desk to give that sugar high has been a temptation. Lack of sleep is connected to weight gain.
  1. Effects

    • Studies do show that lack of sleep is linked to excess weight. It does make sense. If your body is not getting enough rest, you are more likely to consume extra caffeine or foods high in sugar to give the extra energy.

    Considerations

    • Acquiring the right amount of sleep will help your metabolism. If you are lacking sleep, this slows the metabolism. On the other hand, getting the recommended amount of 7-8 hours will give the necessary energy to boost metabolism and keep weight under control.

    Solutions

    • Try as often as possible to plan a day ahead and schedule a set bedtime. If you have trouble falling asleep, read, exercise, drink herbal tea, or listen to calming music. If this still does not help, talk to your doctor for help.
