Stamina Tips
Stamina is your body's ability to sustain strenuous activities over a prolonged period. When you have low stamina, small tasks such as climbing stairs or carrying groceries might leave you winded. According to the American Council on Exercise, improving your stamina will not only benefit you when performing daily tasks, but it will also improve your overall health. Always consult with your physician before beginning a new exercise or diet program.-
Multivitamins
-
Taking a daily multivitamin will help increase your stamina by providing your body with the nutrients it needs. According to the American Council on Exercise, a nutrient deficiency can cause a decrease in your overall stamina. You should select a multivitamin specifically designed for your gender and age range.
Cardiovascular Exercise
-
According to Wayne Westcott, author of "Building Strength and Stamina," engaging in cardiovascular exercise is one of the best ways to improve and maintain stamina. Cardiovascular exercise works your muscles and your heart, increasing the length that they can sustain strenuous activity. If you enjoy exercising in groups, classes such as spinning and aerobics are available at most fitness centers. If you would like to exercise on your own, choose from such activities as jogging, cycling, swimming, hiking and stair climbing. Experiment with different forms of cardiovascular exercise and find a few you enjoy. According to the American Council on Exercise, you should perform 25 to 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise three to five days a week.
Bodyweight Exercise
-
Bodyweight exercise uses the weight of your body to provide resistance to your muscles. According to Mark Lauren and Joshua Clark, authors of "You Are Your Own Gym," bodyweight exercise will improve your stamina and strengthen your muscles if performed regularly. Different bodyweight exercises include crunches, twisting crunches, reverse crunches, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, lunges, squats and calf raises. Ideally, a bodyweight routine includes five to eight exercises, writes Lauren and Clark. You should perform two to three sets of each exercise, consisting of 10 to 12 repetitions, three to five days a week.
