Avoid trans-fats. This fat was artificially created to better preserve foods during processing and is extremely unhealthy for your body. It is the result of hydrogenated liquid oils and is found in commercially packaged foods, fast food and processed foods. It is not recommended to consume this type of fat very often, if at all, because studies have show that these types of fats can lead to severe obesity, coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer. Margarine spreads, commercially baked goods, donuts, Twinkies, pizza, and especially fast foods like fried chicken, French fries and hamburgers are examples of unhealthy trans-fats.

Drink healthy beverages to help you gain weight. Liquids are often overlooked but they will also help you increase your fat cells. Avoid drinks with high fructose corn syrup, such as sodas and juice cocktails. They contain high amounts of unhealthy sugars without providing any nutrients. Alcoholic beverages also have a lot of empty carbohydrates.
A healthier way to intake fats through liquids is through supplements and shakes. There are a variety of protein powders, weight gaining powders and meal replacement supplements that you can add to your milk-, fruit- or water-based shake. Frozen yogurt and fruits lend themselves well to being blended and they taste delicious. Also adding flax to the mixture or simply drinking them alone can help you add fat to your diet. Avoid products with artificial sweeteners and preservatives in favor of all natural ingredients.
