How to Calculate BMI Using Height in Cms

Your body mass index (BMI) is an estimation of your body fat based on your height and weight. If your BMI is below 18.5, you are underweight. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal, and a BMI between 25 and 29.9 indicates that you are overweight. If your BMI is 30 or above, you are obese. According to the National Institutes of Health, higher BMIs are associated with an increased risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, knowing your BMI is an important first step to better health.

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure your height in centimeters (cms) and your weight in kilograms (kgs).

    • 2

      Convert your height in cms to meters. This conversion requires you to insert a decimal point before the last two numbers of your measurement. For example, if you are 163 cms tall, your height in meters is 1.63.

    • 3

      Plug your measurements into this formula:

      BMI = weight in kgs / (height in meters x height in meters).

      So, if you weigh 61.4 kgs and you are 1.63 meters tall, your calculations would look like this:

      BMI = 61.4 / (1.63 x 1.63)

      BMI = 61.4 / 2.6569

      BMI = 23.11
