How to Reduce Your Belly

Stubborn belly fat is more than a roadblock between you and a smaller waist size. A round belly indicates higher susceptibility to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar levels. Shrinking your bulging belly will place you at lower risk for certain diseases and ailments, most notably, heart disease. Grab a hold of your health and fit into those old jeans. Reduce your belly fat by participating in a regular exercise regimen and forming healthy eating habits.

Drink plenty of water daily. It is recommended that you drink 8 oz. of water per day. Drinking water cuts out extra calories you normally would be getting from soda and sugar-filled beverage. Water is also an appetite suppressant.

Reduce your daily caloric intake. Eating less unhealthy foods, chock-full of fat and empty calories, can help reduce overall body weight, including a robust belly. Eat smaller portions and swap things like chips for veggies and dip.

    • 3

Walk off the belly fat. A Canadian study noted by Prevention magazine found that women who walked briskly, an hour a day for approximately 3 months, lost an average of 20% of belly fat. Adding hills and skipping or squats to your walking routine will help increase the results of your incredibly shrinking waistline.

Talk to your doctor about hormone therapy. For some women, menopause can bring on extra weight in the tummy. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can help reduce this side effect. Speak to your doctor about the risks of HRT to find out if it's right for you.

Participate in strength-training activities. You can perform strength training in or out of the gym. If you'd rather not spend the cash on a membership, consider purchasing dumbbells or a resistance band. Abdominal crunches, sit-ups, pull-ups and squats are strength-training exercises that do not require machines or accessories.
