Blenderized Diets to Lose Weight

Face or jaw surgery can inhibit chewing, necessitating a diet of blenderized foods. But eating blenderized foods also helps with weight loss. When you eat, salivary glands are engaged, resulting in enzyme and acid production. Therefore, your salivary glands increase your appetite. But blenderized diets don't require chewing, so your salivary glands don't "turn on." Low-fat blenderized diets for breakfast, lunch and dinner can help you lose weight and maintain nutritional balance.
  1. Breakfast

    • Choose yogurt blenderized fruit drinks for your breakfast in order to lose weight. A peach-apple yogurt blend recipe will require a 6- or 8-oz. carton of peach yogurt, 3 tbsp. low-fat cottage cheese, 3/4 cup of apple juice and 1/8 tsp. of cinnamon.

If bananas at breakfast is more to your taste, choose one carton of plain yogurt instead of peach, reduce the apple juice to 1/2 cup (or use that much milk instead), eliminate the cinnamon from the first recipe, but keep the cottage cheese. Add 2 Tbsp. each of honey and lemon and throw in a ripe medium-sized banana. For those seeking a faster and simpler blenderized diet, blend 1 cup of low-fat skim milk with 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen fruit (bananas or peaches).

    Lunch/Dinner

    • Cook 1/2 cup of salmon, skinless chicken or even an occasional piece of red meat, thoroughly, before adding 6 Tbsp. of hot broth to your blenderized drink for lunch or dinner. Add salt and pepper or other seasonings to taste. Vegetable options abound for your blenderized side dishes at lunch and dinner. Add 1/2 cup total of mixed vegetables or elect a low-fat vegetable such as broccoli.

Milk and vegetable juices or broths should be used to blend lunch or dinner options. These will add vitamins and minerals to your meal, as well as flavor. Remove any chunks of food not properly blended to avoid having to chew. If the blended food is not liquid enough, add a little more milk, juice or broth to further liquefy the food. A good rule of thumb is an equal portion of milk or juice to the solid being blended.

    Soups

    • Choose soups in order to feel you are not deviating too much from your normal eating routine, since soup broth is sipped anyway. Create a cream of pea soup meal by combining 1 cup of cooked peas with 1 cup of hot milk. Add 1 tsp. of reduced-calorie margarine, three low-fat crackers and a dash of salt for taste.
