How to Make the Perfect Pull-Up Bar
Pull-up bars (also known as chin-up bars) are a simple and incredibly efficient exercise tool for building upper body strength, both in the arms and in the pectorals. A pull-up bar is a fairly simple piece of equipment because it is effectively just a fixed horizontal bar. While brand name and manufactured pull-up bars can cost upward of $100, there is an easy method for building a perfect pull-up bar on your own for less than $20.Things You'll Need
- Door frame
- Galvanized pipe
- Wall mount brackets

1
Identify the location where you want to put your pull-up bar. A good spot is a door frame because it is about the ideal width for a pull-up bar. Two walls that are less than three feet apart will also work.
-
2
Affix two wall mount brackets parallel to one another on opposite sides of the door frame or walls. Wall mount brackets are easily obtained at most hardware stores and come with standard installation directions.
-
3
Place a galvanized steel pipe between the two wall mount brackets. Be sure that the pipe is tightly fitted in the brackets so that it does not move while you are exercising.
