How to Calculate Your RMR
RMR stands for resting metabolic rate, which is also known as your basal metabolic rate (BMR). Your RMR equals the number of calories that you would burn each day if you performed no physical activity. The formula for calculating your RMR varies depending on your gender. You can use your RMR to estimate your caloric intake needs because each person burns calories at a different rate. To calculate your RMR, you need to know your weight, height and age.Things You'll Need

Women's Formula
-
1
Multiply 4.35 by your weight measured in pounds. For example, if you weigh 110 pounds, you would multiply 4.35 by 110 to get 478.5.
-
2
Multiply 4.7 by your height, measured in inches. For example, if you measure 62 inches tall, you would multiply 4.7 by 62 to get 291.4.
-
3
Multiply -4.7 by your age in years. For example, if you are 43 years old, you would multiply -4.7 by 43 to get -202.1.
-
4
Add the results from Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 to 655 to calculate your RMR. Finishing the example, you would add 478.5 to 291.4 to -202.1 to 655 to find that the RMR equals 1,222.8.
Men's Formula
-
5
Multiply 6.23 by your weight in pounds. For example, if you weigh 165 pounds, you would multiply 165 by 6.23 to get 1027.95.
-
6
Multiply 12.7 by your height in inches. For example, if you measure 69 inches tall, you would multiply 12.7 by 69 to get 876.3.
-
7
Multiply -6.8 by your age in years. For example, if you are 24 years old, you would multiply -6.8 by 24 to get -163.2.
-
8
Add the results from Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 to 66 to calculate your RMR. Finishing the example, you would add 66 to 1027.95 to 876.3 to -163.2 to get 1,807.05 as your RMR.
