How to Calculate BMR and RMR
The Basal Metabolic Rate, or the Resting Metabolic Rate, is a formula used to calculate the number of calories your body burns on a daily basis while at rest. Determining your BMR can help you mange your weight and fitness. BMI-Calculator.net says a shortfall of the BMR formula is that it doesn't factor in lean body mass and will underestimate calorie needs in those who are very muscular and will overestimate calorie needs in those who are very fat.Things You'll Need

Measure your height using the tape measure and weigh yourself on the scale. The formula requires your weight in pounds as well as your height in inches. Your age and gender are also required for this formula.

Use the required information in the BMR Formula. For women, the BMR formula is 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) -- (4.7 x age in years). The formula for men is 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) -- (6.8 x age in years). Keep track of the information by writing it down.

Calculate the formula by determining the number within the brackets first. Use a calculator if necessary. Once the numbers in the brackets are figured, you can calculate the remainder of the equation. For example, if a 23-year-old female is 166 lbs and is 5 feet, 7 inches, or 67 inches, her formula would be calculated as follows:
1. BMR = 655 + (4.35 x 166 lbs) + (4.7 x 67 inches ) -- (4.7 x 23)
2. BMR = 655 + 722.1 + 314.9 - 108.1
3. BMR = 1583.9
Therefore, a 23-year-old woman who is 166 lbs and 5-7 burns 1583.9 calories a day while resting.
