Today's programs for overweight children and teens are designed to help children and families understand the importance of healthy eating and fitness plus offer programs that educate as well as burn fat and calories. Average daily caloric intake with this program is 1,500 to 1,800 calories and includes 64 grams of fat, which enables children and teens to continue eating foods they like and lose weight. The program is ordered through the program's website for $22.95. Sample meal items include one large egg scrambled or fried in a pan sprayed with oil spray, cups of vegetables and whole fruits and cooked vegetables such as broccoli.

    Wellspring Weight Loss Programs

    • Wellspring Weight Loss Programs include Wellspring camps with 11 locations around the United States plus locations in the United Kingdom and Canada. Programs are designed for children, teens and adults. According to its website, those on Wellspring programs lose an average of 3 to 5 pounds per week and keep the weight off long-term. Wellspring camps include summer fitness and weight-loss programs for ages 5 to 65-plus. Camps are one- to 12-week summer programs and offer a comprehensive, scientific approach to weight loss. The Wellspring website emphasizes that the camps are not fat or boot camps. Cookbooks and recipes are available on the Wellspring website. Wellspring year-round boarding schools for weight loss are also available.

    • We Can! (Ways To Enhance Children's Activity and Nutrition) is a national education program designed to provide parents and caregivers with activities and tools to encourage healthy eating and exercise in their children as well as reduce time in front of the television or computer screen. The program offers organizations, community groups and health professionals a "centralized resource" for promoting healthy eating habits via community outreach, partnership programs and media activities. Education programs, support materials and training opportunities are available for assorted support programming within a community. The program provides extensive information on healthy eating habits and exercise including tips, worksheets and other tools to help the entire family stay healthy.
