How to Use a Spring Scale to Measure Weight

Spring scales are the most commonly used scales for measuring weight. Most bathroom scales operate on a spring, translating the force exerted on the spring into the numerical amount of the individual's weight. Using a spring scale to measure weight is easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your scale on a hard, flat, even surface, such as a hardwood or linoleum floor.

    • 2

Weigh yourself by standing atop the scale and distributing your weight evenly. Try to remain as still as possible to help the scale calculate your weight.

    • 3

Wait until the dial has stopped moving, or the LED screen has stopped changing.

    • 4

Weigh yourself twice more, using the same process. If you get several different numbers, add them together and average them out. For example, if you weighed yourself three times and received the readings of 110, 108.6 and 110.1, you would add them together. Divide the total of 328.7 by 3. This results in a final answer of 109.56.

    • 5

This averaged number will be your accurate weight.
