What to Eat to Boost Metabolism

Many people suffer from a slow metabolism, which can cause weight gain, tiredness and problems with losing weight. Some suffers might have problems with their thyroid that can cause a slow metabolism, and in others it might be hereditary. There are foods that can be eaten, however, to help boost your metabolism.
  1. Fruits

    • Grapefruit works for the metabolism by lowering the levels of insulin in a person's body that make the body store excess fat. Grapefruit is also rich in fiber, which means the body must work harder to break it down.

Apples are another fruit that helps with the metabolism as they are also high in fiber content. They have the added bonus of being a filling snack. Jalapenos, which are often thought of as a vegetable but are actually a fruit, can also speed up the heart rate and metabolism as your body takes hours to burn the calories because of the capsaicin found in them.

    Vegetables

    • Spinach has many antioxidants, vitamin C and potassium and can speed up the metabolism. Broccoli contains calcium and vitamin C, which both help speed up the metabolism. Vitamin C aids in the body's absorption of calcium, and calcium acts as a metabolic trigger.

    Water

    • Water is important to a person's metabolism, as the body always needs H2O to work at its most efficient peak. When water enters a person, the body has to work harder to warm up the stomach, in turn causing a boost in metabolism. At least eight 8-ounce glasses of water should be drunk per day.

    Cinnamon

    • This spice helps the body metabolize sugar better and can keep blood sugar levels steady. Cinnamon has also been known to help lower cholesterol. You can easily add this spice into foods, teas and drinks.
