How Much Should a Person Weigh in Kilograms?
A healthy body weight is dependent on many factors including height, body type and physical condition. The Body Mass Index (BMI) is commonly used to determine whether a person has a healthy body weight or not. In the United States, weight is measured in pounds, but in much of the world weight is measured in kilograms.-
How to Determine Body Mass Index
-
There are two different formulas used to determine BMI, one for pounds and the other for kilograms. To determine BMI using kilograms, the formula equals weight in kilograms divided by [height in meters squared]. To determine BMI using pounds, the formula is weight in pounds divided by [height in inches squared] times 703.
What Does Your BMI Mean
-
A BMI less than 18.5 corresponds to a weight less than ideal for your height. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 puts you within the normal weight range for your height. A BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight; a BMI of 30 or higher is in the obese category. An exception is a very muscular person who may have a high BMI and still be healthy, because muscle weighs more than fat.
Other Ways to Determine Healthy Weight
-
BMI is not the only way to determine healthy weight. Height-weight charts, like the one used by Weight Watchers, offer a straightforward way to determine at a glance whether your weight is in the healthy range for your height (see Resources).
Conversion from Kilograms to Pounds
-
If you want to use a chart in kilograms to determine your healthy weight and know your weight only in pounds or vice versa, you can easily convert pounds to kilograms and kilograms to pounds. One kilogram equals 2.2 pounds, so if you need to convert kilograms to pounds, multiply the kilograms by 2.2. Someone who weighs 80 kilos would weigh 176 pounds.
Conversion from Pounds to Kilograms
-
If you need to convert pounds to kilograms, divide the pounds by 2.2 and you will get your weight in kilos. Someone who weighs 150 pounds would weigh about 68 kilos.
