What Fruits Should One Eat to Burn Fat?

Many fruits are considered fat burners because they require calories to be consumed in the digestion of the fruit. If these calories are consumed with fatty calories before they are stored in the body, they can effectively reduce the amount of fat buildup in the body. Most fruits are best consumed raw to be effective "reverse calorie" foods.
  1. Vitamin C-Rich Fruits

    • Many vitamin C fruits are good fat-burning foods. Vitamin C is effective this way because it dilutes the fat cells, making it easier for the fat to be released from the body. Although the grapefruit diet has been widely popularized by fad diets over the decades, it is not the only Vitamin C-rich fruit that is a good fat fighter. Other fruits include all citrus fruits, guavas and kiwis.

    Fruit vs. Fruit Juice

    • It is best to use raw fruits rather than fruit juice. If fruit juice is consumed, fresh-squeezed is better than processed fruit juice. The body consumes calories through digestion, so the breakdown of pulp and fibers in the fruit help burn calories and increase metabolic rates. Fruit juice still has Vitamin C and is fat free but it does not possess the same fat-burning qualities that fresh fruit does.

    Beyond Vitamin C Fruits

    • Other fruits can be effective fat-burners such as apples, grapes, plums, melons, cherries and berries. These are most often used as fat fighters when consumed raw, but dried fruits such as plums, apricots and raisins are good fat-fighting options as well. They require more calories to consume while also increasing fiber content, which helps eliminate fat that has not already been stored.
