Stand with your weight evenly distributed on the scale. You will notice that the numbers increase in a counter clockwise direction. There is a point of reference on the scale that will be used for determining the measurement.

Read the scale. Reading the scale is a process that done in increments of ten. Most scales will have a number followed by small marks that represent "single units". There will be nine of these "single units" between each increment of ten. Match the line or number on the scale with the fixed reference point on the scale.

Determine where the line stops in relation to the reference number. Regardless of the size of the scale, the reading will be done in the same way. A digital scale will tell you the exact weight, without having to count.
