1
Determine your weight and height.
-
2
Divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 to obtain your weight in kilograms. For a man weighing 170 pounds, the equation would be 170/2.2 = 77.3 kg (rounded to the nearest tenth of a kilogram).
-
3
Convert your height from inches to centimeters. One inch equals 2.54 cm, so multiply your height in inches by 2.54. For a man who is 6 feet tall, the equation would be 72 x 2.54 = 182.9 cm (rounded to the nearest tenth of a centimeter).

Calculate your REE. The equation for men is: 66 + (13.7 x weight in kg) + (5.0 x height in cm) -- (6.8 x age in years). Plug your height and weight measurements and your age into the equation. Using the example of a man who is 6 feet tall, weighs 170 pounds and is 28 years old, the equation would be: REE = 66 + (13.7 x 77.3) + (5.0 x 182.9 cm) -- (6.8 x 28). Then REE = 66 + 1059.01 + 914.5 -- 190.4. So, REE = 1849.11. This means that a 28-year-old man who is 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds burns 1849.11 calories per day when he is not active.
