Visit the American Council on Exercise website -- or another well-known organization for health and wellness training and certification.

Click on the Personal Training Certification link. Begin a training program to learn how to work with people on a one-on-one basis in fitness training and exercise science. Study the provided materials, including musculoskeletal anatomy, human movement texts, client interview and assessment techniques and program design. Allow yourself three full months of study to complete all study guide exercises and practice exams, before taking the certification test.

Select the "Lifestyle and Weight Management" link to register for a certification program. Study provided educational texts on biomechanics, physiology, psychology, nutrition, and weight management. Learn how to teach clients to change their lifestyle habits and control what they eat. Give yourself between three and four months to complete all study materials prior to taking the certification exam.

Get a degree in physical and health education. Apply to a local, state or online college. Register to take classes; such as human growth and development, first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and rhythmic and non-rhythmic physical education exercises. Complete at least 60 college credit hours to earn an Associates' Degree and between 120 and 141 hours for a Bachelors' Degree.
