Diets to Reduce Weight
There are so many diets to choose from that a person can become overwhelmed just trying to decide which one would be best. The easiest thing to do is to choose a diet and discuss it with your doctor to make sure you are making the healthiest decision for yourself.-
Weight Watchers
-
One of the most popular diets is the Weight Watchers diet. Foods are assigned points values and a person is allowed so many points a day. Points in food are determined by a formula that factors in fat, calories and fiber. Extra points are available to be used at your discretion through the week and you may earn points for exercise. Members are given the option to either attend meetings or track their weight online. The new Weight Watchers Points Plus program allows you to eat an unlimited amount of fruits and vegetables.
Jenny Craig
-
Jenny Craig is a calorie-based diet system in which you purchase pre-packaged food that has already been portioned. You can supplement these meals with vegetables, fruits and low fat dairy products. You can choose to visit an actual Jenny Craig facility or use the company's at-home program. There are online tools used to help track your progress and also a 24/7 telephone support.
NutriSystem
-
NutriSystem is another diet centered on pre-packaged meals. Your food will come in monthly shipments and you may supplement your diet with fruit, vegetables, protein and milk. There are no meetings to attend, though a planner is included to help you stay on track. This diet would be well suited for someone looking for convenience.
Atkins Diet
-
The Atkins diet is based around low carbohydrate eating. Atkins works by restricting the carbohydrates that you would normally eat; this sends your body into a state called ketosis. Ketosis is when your body is getting energy from your fat cells instead of the carbs you were eating. There are several stages to the Atkins diet. In the first two weeks you can eat no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day. After this stage you can slowly begin to add more carbs to your diet. Eventually you would begin the maintenance portion of the diet.
