1000 Cal Diets

The ideal way to lose weight is to make lifestyle changes in diet and fitness. If you need to lose weight quickly and drastically, due to a health condition or other condition identified by a doctor, a diet of 1000 calories a day can be an option. Keep in mind that this must be a short-term diet as it is difficult to meet all nutritional requirements on just 1000 per day. Remember to drink water all day long. Tea and coffee, with no added creamer or sugar, are acceptable as well.
  1. Breakfast

    • Breakfast on a 1000 calorie diet should be filling and nutritious. If you start out the day well, you are less likely to surrender to cravings later in the day. One choice for breakfast, that stays within the calorie guidelines, is oatmeal made with milk, water, apple and cinnamon. Cook the oatmeal using the instructions on the package. Use one-third of a cup of rolled oats, one-half cup water, three-quarter cup of skim milk and bring to a boil. Once it is done cooking, add one-half of cubed apple and sprinkle cinnamon on top.

    Lunch

    • Incorporate whole grains, protein, vegetables and fruit into your lunch. Eating low calorie, filling foods will help you feel less deprived. Start with whole-grain reduced calorie bread. Aim for bread that contains about 70 calories for each slice. Use two slices of bread, three ounces of lean turkey in the sandwich. Smear mustard on the bread to add flavor. Add a bunch of vegetables on the sandwich, such as lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pickles and sprouts. Add as many as you like. Add a plum on the side for a well rounded and low-calorie meal.

    Snacks

    • Snacks will keep your blood sugar level while on a 1000 calorie diet. One cup of fresh strawberries only contains about 50 calories. A small handful of peanuts or walnuts are another option.

    Dinner

    • Protein and vegetables at dinner are a ideal way to finish out the day. Make a small salad with romaine lettuce and cucumbers. Add two tbsp. of reduced-calorie salad dressing. Pair it with one cup of green beans and six oz. of grilled chicken breast. If you find yourself still hungry, snack on low-calorie vegetables, such as lettuce and cucumbers.
