How Can Men at 50 Lose Weight Fast?

If you're a man in your 50s, you may have spent the past several years working at your job and raising children. Perhaps you haven't spent enough time on yourself, especially on your own health. If this is the case, you may be overweight and want to lose a few pounds. Losing weight at 50 isn't impossible, but because your metabolism rate has slowed, you'll have to shed the pounds with a combination of diet and exercise.

Instructions

    • 1

Set a goal for how many pounds you wish to lose, and in how many days. Fast weight loss is not as healthy as correct weight loss. While you can lose weight through inadequate eating and diet pills, it is more beneficial to lose weight through diet and exercise. Having a goal will help keep you focused and on track.

    • 2

Exercise for at least 60 minutes a day. You can break these 60 minutes into two 30-minute intervals, such as a morning walk and a visit to the gym after work.

    • 3

Change your drinking habits. Many men drink coffee, soft drinks and beer. All three are full of unhealthy calories. By cutting these three types of beverages from your daily food intake, you'll be omitting several grams of sugar a day, and perhaps a couple of hundred total grams over the course of the week. Replace these drinks with water. Water hydrates the body and helps burn fat. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

    • 4

Change your diet to cut out as many fatty and sugary products as possible. Fats and sugars have addictive properties that may make you want to consume more of them than is healthy. Foods to avoid include fried foods and the majority of desserts.

    • 5

Replace the fats and sugars in your diet with healthy alternatives. Instead of frying something, for instance, grill it. When food is cooked on a grill, its excess fat drips off. Instead of eating refined sugar products such as cake and cookies, eat more fresh fruit, which may satisfy your craving for something sweet, while giving you other health benefits.

    • 6

Eat up to six small meals a day to avoid overeating. If you don't snack often, you may be extremely hungry by mealtime. As such, it's easy to overeat and make your body work hard at digesting the meal. Eating six small meals will keep your body working steadily, but not overworked. If you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, you may wish to include a mid-morning meal such as fruits and nuts, and a mid-afternoon meal containing fresh vegetables, cheese and tomato juice.
