How to Lose 153 Pounds

If you intend to lose more than 150 lbs., you need to keep a couple things in mind. First, you can do it, but it won't happen overnight. The only healthy way to lose a lot of weight is gradually; you will see measurable results over time. Second, the best way to lose weight is from a combination of diet and exercise. Fads and gimmicks will work briefly at best, so ignore get-skinny-quick schemes, and focus on your progress that you will see.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a food journal. Keep track of everything you eat throughout the day as well as your total calories. Use a calorie counter if you're unsure of the number of calories in a serving of a particular food.

    • 2

Phase out unhealthy foods from your diet. Avoid cookies, chips, cakes, pies, candies and sugary drinks. Try eating animal crackers instead of cookies, and pretzels instead of chips. Opt for sugar-free lemonade or diet soda instead of regular sweetened soda.

    • 3

Add healthy foods to your diet. Stock up on plenty of fruits and vegetables to eat as a snack or with meals. Opt for lean meats like turkey, chicken and ham instead of beef and pork.

    • 4

Eat smaller meals and space snacks out throughout the day. When you feel hungry, drink a glass of cold water and eat a piece of fruit. Chewing gum gives your mouth something to do, if you often eat out of habit.

    • 5

Introduce exercise into your daily routine. Begin by walking outside or on a treadmill for five or 10 minutes at a time.

    • 6

Increase the pace of your stride or the distance you walk gradually. Don't expect to be able to run a mile the first time you lace up your sneakers. Your weight loss depends on your dedication and endurance when you perform exercise. Exercising increases your heart rate, which causes your body to burn more calories. Exercise at a pace that feels comfortable for you, keeping in mind that you should enhance your work-outs to burn slightly more calories each week.

    • 7

Rest for two days each week. Ideally, you should work out for two days and rest on the third, then work out for three more days and rest again. This allows your body to get into a rhythm. Your target should be 2 to 3 lbs. of weight lost per week.
