1
Weigh yourself on a reliable scale, and record your starting weight.

Lots of calorie counters exist online. Write down daily caloric intake for a week. Make sure and count everything you eat all day long! If you are unsure of the number of calories in a food item, Google "the number of calories in __________" (including the brand name) to get a realistic estimate of the number of calories.
-
3
Knowing where you stand with caloric intake is important. Divide the number of calories consumed by seven or by the exact number of days you recorded calories. This should give you a reasonable idea of the approximate number of overall calories consumed per day.
-
4
Choose fruits and veggies with fewer calories. Cut back on the number of calories eaten daily. This can be done by eating less or by substituting the type of foods you are eating for less caloric ones. It takes a loss of approximately 3,500 calories to lose one pound, so that should be kept in mind while you are cutting back. The more you cut back on calories, the faster weight loss can occur.

5
Time will show if you have cut enough calories from your diet. Repeat weighing on the same scale you first used to record your weight. If your caloric intake is restricted, over time, weight will decrease. Continue this until you lose 10 lbs.
