What Is Acai X3?

The acai berry is a reddish-purple fruit that is found in the Acai palm tree in South and Central America. Acai berry product manufacturers often claim it has antioxidant and weight loss properties. Acai X3 is a dietary supplement that makes similar claims, but has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  1. Acai X3

    • Acai X3 is a weight loss supplement manufactured by the Natural Products Association. The company claims the formula improves health, increases energy and "has weight loss benefits." The manufacturer states the formula contains omega acids, increases your metabolism while also increasing fat oxidation and provides disease-preventing "antioxidant support."

    Name Change

    • In 2009, after a host of consumer complaints, the Natural Products Association changed the formula of the supplement. What was formerly Acai X3 is now called Acai Berry Select.

    Complaints

    • The website for Acai X3 was deactivated in 2009, after complaints were lodged by consumers about unauthorized charges to their bank accounts after participating in free trial offers from the company. Other users complained the product was completely ineffective in regard to its claims of weight loss and improved energy.

    Effectiveness

    • Some studies have shown acai berry pulp has high antioxidant capacity, but several of these studies are ongoing, and none have yet (as of 2010) produced a conclusive result demonstrating its antioxidant ability. Very few studies have examined acai's weight loss properties and none have proven it can induce weight loss. Common medical wisdom suggests that eating fruits can be part of a successful weight loss plan, but there is no current science that proves that the acai berry assists with this goal.

    Side Effects

    • There is little evidence of the Acai X3 product causing negative side effects. Doctors recommend that anyone with a pollen allergy or a specific allergy to fruits in this family avoid acai supplements.
