Christian Weight Loss Camps for Kids
An overweight child can experience bullying and low self-esteem. Weight loss camps have sprung up across the United States to help teach children and teenagers how to incorporate diet and exercise into a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Certain weight loss camps incorporate Christian ideals and values, helping a child gain a high self-esteem while losing weight in the process.-
Wellspring Camps
-
Recommended by the National Youth Network (a Christian-based therapeutic and treatment organization), Wellspring Camps offer a whole approach to weight loss for children, teenagers and young adults. Counselors not only help the individual attendee but offer support and advice for the entire family of an attendee. The camp teaches good exercise habits and how to cook for weight loss. Attendees also learn how to incorporate habits--like writing or playing music-- to be emotionally prepared to continue weight loss and weight maintenance following their time at the camp. Wellspring Camps have locations throughout North America and Europe.
National Academy of Fitness
-
Recommended by ChristianSummerCamps.net, the National Academy of Fitness is for teenage girls ages 12 through 18. This camp teaches attendees several different types of fitness while maintaining a weight loss of at most two pounds each week as recommended by most health care professionals. The camp also teaches how to eat a proper diet. Attendees also have free time to enjoy typical teenage girl activities like shopping, going to dances and sightseeing. The National Academy of Fitness is on a 20-acre ranch approximately an hour and a half away from the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
New Image Camps
-
With two separate campuses (one for boys and one for girls), New Image Camps are accredited by the American Camping Association. One of the New Image camps, Camp Pocono Trails, was featured on an MTV special. Counselors focus on fitness activities and building up self-esteem.
