How to Repair a Life Fitness Elliptical
With health and fitness being foremost in many people's minds these days, the use of home fitness equipment has taken off. The downside of owning your own machine is that if it stops functioning properly, there's no qualified technician to get it going again. Having a machine at home requires gathering at least some basic knowledge of how to fix it should it go wrong. The most common problems are with the walking or drive belt and the motor, which will wear out after a time.Things You'll Need

Repair Drive Belt
-
1
Start with the right pedal. Remove the bolt that attaches the pedal to the coupler. Remove the coupler, and then disconnect the bolts that attach the pedal to the actual machine. Repeat on the left side. On either side of the machine's base are two "Shrouds," or casings. Remove these.
-
2
Locate the crank cover to the base. There will be one on each side. Remove these. By kneeling down and looking into the base, you will locate the drive belt.
-
3
Disconnect the belt from the cranks and pulleys inside the base and remove.
-
4
Stretch the replacement belt over the left crank, and then fit over the pulley. Pull the belt over the motor pulley.
-
5
Align the magnetic bearings, which will be on the right hand side. Kneel next to the right crank and find the switch that is located next to the pulley. Turn the pulley until a magnet is visible, and set the magnet next to the switch. Adjust the switch's position by loosening the holding screw and moving the switch as close to the magnet as possible without their touching. Replace all cranks covers and shrouds. Make sure all removed parts are refitted.
Replace Motor Unit

6
Follow Steps 1 and 2 above. Remove the drive belt from the motor pulley.
-
7
Disconnect the wires from the motor and release from holding unit. Place screws to one side.
-
8
Lift the old motor from its frame and replace with the new one. Reconnect the frame and attach wires to the new motor.
-
9
Replace the drive belt over the pulley and replace all crank housings, cases and shrouds.
