Beginner Fat Burning Workouts

Fat-burning workouts are targeted to specifically burn fat all over your body, as opposed to a cardiovascular workout. The main difference between fat-burning workouts and regular workouts are the division of anaerobic activities and aerobic activities. There are a variety of ways to get started with fat-burning exercises. However, starting with beginner exercises is always best to help build endurance and get your body more comfortable utilizing certain muscles that have long been dormant.
  1. Jumping Jacks

    • Getting started with a fat-burning regimen requires some aerobic exercise as a warm up. Jumping jacks are a perfect blend of aerobic exercise and fat-burning exercise. Begin with your arms at your sides. Spread your legs shoulder length apart. Raise your arms straight over your head and close your legs at the same time. Return to the starting position and continue. Do 20-30 repetitions.

    Squats

    • Squats help tone your gluts while also burning fat in your lower body. Start by bending your knees and positioning them directly over your ankles. Stick your arms out straight in front of you and allow your gluts to pull out on the opposite direction. Slowly raise back up to starting position. Keep your back flat and your stomach tight while doing this exercise. Do five to 10 repetitions.

    Walking Lunges

    • Walking lunges are another great fat burner and toner. Take a step with one leg and position your knee over your ankle. Slightly lower your body, then raise it back up in the same position. Instead of pushing back into the original stance, continue walking forward as you bring the other leg in front and repeat the same cycle. Do 20 to 30 repetitions.

For added strengthening, hold 5- to 10-pound dumbells while doing your walking lunges.

    Plank

    • Begin on the ground, face down, with your forearms resting under your body. Position them so they are bent at a 90-degree angle. Tuck your toes under as if you were doing a push-up. Slowly raise up onto your forearms, keeping your hips in a straight line with your body. Tighten your core and keep it as tight as possible for 10 seconds. Do five to 10 repetitions.

For a variation of the plank, try doing it on your side. Pull upon one elbow and extend the other arm straight up in the air. Keep your whole body in a straight line as you tighten your love handle area.

    Push-Ups

    • Whether you do a full push-up or a half (lady) push-up, you will get similar results. Push-ups are one of the best fat-burning exercises you can do. Lay flat on the ground, face down, and place your hands under your body, in line with your shoulders. Tuck your toes under and press up off the ground, keeping your body in a straight line. Extend as far and you can, and exhale while rising. To do a half push up, place your knees on the ground and focus on the upper body and core only, as your raise yourself. Your feet stay relaxed, and your lower legs stay on the ground in this version. Do 20 to 30 repetitions.

    Other Exercises

    • Other great fat-burning types of exercise include: swimming, running, climbing and cross country skiing. All of these activities burn 300-350 calories in 30 minutes. Brisk walking is also a fat burner for any age and any ability level.
