1
Understand what cellulite is and where the bumps come from. Cellulite and bumps on the skin are made of fat, just like the other fat stored in your body. Sometimes, when fat deposits around and in our connective tissue, there is a rippling effect under the skin. It's more common to find cellulite in the hips, thighs and buttocks region of women's bodies, and it is more prevalent in women with thinner skin. This means that cellulite might appear more as our bodies age, because our skin gets thinner.

Learn about temporary solutions. Short-term, it is possible to reduce the appearance of cellulite and bumps. Treatments like massage, lymphatic draining or cellulite creams work by temporarily making the skin tighter, and therefore smoothing out the bumpy fat deposits for a brief time. The best way to get rid of cellulite and bumps in a long-term way, though, is to get rid of the fat.

Reduce your fat intake. Start a low-fat diet, and if necessary, speak to your doctor or a nutritionist regarding what is best for you. A low-fat diet generally omits fats and oils, so reduce your intake of dairy products, fried foods, desserts and oils.

Exercise. The American Heart Association recommends exercising for at least 30 minutes every day. This will help you lose weight, lose fat and gain muscle, and the appearance of cellulite and bumps will reduce. If you are interested in joining a gym, ask for a personal trainer to help your cellulite and bump "problem areas" with particular exercises.
