How to Make My Body Shape Smaller

Eating healthily is the cornerstone of losing weight. If you are exercising without a change in your diet, you will find it very difficult to lose weight and make your shape smaller. Every person differs in their dietary requirements, so it is recommended that you consult your doctor before embarking on any extreme dietary changes or for help with planning a balanced diet. Concentrate on swapping bad food choices such as sugary drinks and snacks and fatty fried foods with smart choices such as fruits, vegetables and nuts, grains, low-fat dairy products and lean meats.

Exercise regularly. You can make the shape of your body less round and more toned by frequent exercise. As with your diet, it is recommended to consult your doctor before beginning an exercise program. Try out different types of exercise, such as swimming, yoga, running, walking, dance classes, weight training or riding a bike to see which ones make you feel energized and challenged. You are more likely to stick with an exercise program that makes you feel good and isn't a chore. The Mayo Clinic offers an online method of calculating how many calories you can expect to burn through engaging in various exercise styles (see Resources).

Tinker with your wardrobe. You can create the illusion of a smaller body though making wise choices when it comes to fashion. Horizontal stripes are frowned upon if you want to look smaller, since they draw the eye across the body. Clothing that is too tight or loose can also make you look larger. Always wear clothing that fits properly and is made for your body shape. Stay away from boxy blouses or suit jackets.
