The Best Way to Improve Abs

Although the stomach and abdomen are different from each other from a medical perspective, they are often used synonymously in ordinary language. Due to the stomach's position, it is easy to develop stomach fat and difficult to get rid of it. It is especially hard to get rid of fat in the lower abdomen, or rectus abdominis, because the fat is not easily converted into muscle. However, it is possible to improve your abs with some hard work and simple exercises.
  1. Reverse Crunch

    • Reverse crunches are the key to improving your lower abs. Lie on the floor on your back. You should ideally cross your arms over your chest, but if you need some additional support you can rest your hands lightly under your head, but do not pull or strain your neck with your hands. Lift your head by pushing it with your hands, fold your legs from your knees, and lift your legs. Touch your knees to your chin, or get as close as you can to doing so.

    Crunches

    • Standard crunches will help you remove fat from your upper abs. Lie on your back, lock your hands and place them under your hips, touching the ground. While lying down, raise your legs in two positions. First, keep your knees straight and then bend them at 90 degrees. For best result, attach a 2- to 5-pound weight to your feet first.

    Side Crunches

    • Side crunches can also help to tone your abs. Lie flat on your back and lift your knees at an angle, keeping your feet on the ground as if you were going to do standard crunches. Put your hands lightly behind your head, or cross them over your chest, and use your ab muscles to lift your upper half off the floor and toward one side. If your hands are behind your head, your elbow should touch the knee on the opposite side of the body (for example, your right elbow should touch your left knee). Repeat the crunch, this time going to the other side.

    Improvement and Maintenance

    • Your abs cannot be improved overnight. It may take several weeks of consistent exercise before you notice a significant difference. Quality, rather than quantity, is most important when doing exercises. If your form is not correct, not only will you not improve your abs, but you may also strain your back. Pull in your abdomen muscles when doing your workout. Finally, remember that to keep good abs you need to continue to do exercises regularly.
