How to Find What Your BMI Is?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. Body Mass Index is a technique for determining whether or not somebody is overweight. By comparing height and weight you can get a rough estimate for how heavy your body should be. Unlike other methods like electrical induction, caliper pinch or hydrostatic weighing, calculating BMI requires no specialized equipment. You can do it at home in just a couple of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Weigh yourself on a bathroom scale. For the most accurate results, do this nude after having gone to the bathroom.

    • 2

Measure your standing height using the tape measure. If you're reasonably sure it's accurate, use your height as recorded on your driver's license.

    • 3

Consult a BMI chart or calculator (see resources). Find your height and weight on the grid and record the BMI number.

    • 4

BMI numbers lower than 18.5 mean you are underweight.
BMI numbers between 18.5 and 24.9 mean you are at normal weight.
BMI numbers between 25 and 29.9 mean you are overweight.
BMI numbers of 30 and over indicate obesity.
