The Fastest Diets

When beginning a diet, it is natural to want to see results immediately. Most people know that real, permanent weight loss comes from a lifestyle change, not a gimmick or fad diet. However, some diets are known for causing faster weight loss than others. Regardless of which diet you choose, fast weight loss will only come with following your eating plan strictly.
  1. Low-Carb Diets

    • Cutting back drastically on carbs forces the body into ketosis, which results in the body burning fat for energy. These diets have varied results, but most dieters experience very drastic weight loss within two weeks of ketosis.

    Low Fat Diets

    • Low fat diets will be more effective and faster for those whose regular diets are high in fat. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), losing weight requires burning more calories than you eat.

    Fasts and Cleanses

    • If done properly, liquid fasts can be a way of cleansing the body. While weight loss is part of fasting, much of the weight lost is water and will not be permanent. For a boost or to start off new eating habits, a fast monitored by your doctor is an option.

    Exercise

    • To accelerate the results of any diet, the CDC recommends a high level of regular exercise, like jogging, bicycling, swimming, speed-walking or aerobics. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans indicates that "calories burned per hour will be higher for persons who weigh more than 154 lbs and lower for persons who weigh less."

    Considerations

    • Typically, the more overweight a person is, the more he will lose in the first few days or weeks of a diet. Before beginning any diet, particularly one designed to initiate quick weight loss, always consult your doctor.

    Warnings

    • Fast weight loss is almost never permanent weight loss and can be risky, even resulting in long-term damage. For permanent weight loss and good overall health, a steady plan of healthful, balanced eating and regular exercise is the best answer.
