10 Minute Workout for Weight Loss

Weight loss usually involves both diet and exercise, but according to the Diet Channel, exercise is the most important determining factor in whether the weight loss will be long term. If you're short on time, you should know that a 10-minute workout can include both strength training and cardio exercises.
  1. Strength Training

    • Strength training is a crucial component to your workout routine if you want to lose weight, because the more muscle tissue you have, the more calories your body will burn, even while you're at rest, according to the Diet Channel. There are several weight training exercises you can do almost anywhere in about five minutes (half your workout).

Stand with your right foot on top of a bench, and push on the leg in order to lift your body up. Standing with both your feet on the bench, switch your weight to your left leg and lower your right foot to the ground. Repeat the lift on the opposite leg, and do this continuously for 30 seconds.

Holding weights in each hand, raise your arms out to the side. Hold this position for 10 seconds, then raise them a little higher, and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat this four times, until your arms are parallel to the ground.

Lie on your back with your legs extended straight up, arms out to your sides with your palms facing down. Keeping your legs together, lower them slightly to your left side and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat this four times until your legs are almost to the ground, then repeat the sequence on your right side.

Get into a plank or push-up position. Lower your body two inches toward the floor and hold for 10 seconds. Lower your body two more inches and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat this three more times.

    Cardiovascular Exercise

    • Cardiovascular exercise is important in your workout because it burns fat, according to the Diet Channel. In a 10 minute workout, you should do something you enjoy, like brisk walking, jogging, biking or swimming after your strength training. These aerobic exercises raise your heart rate, which will help your body burn fat so that you can lose weight.
