Diets for Morbid Obesity
-
Juice Diet
-
To begin a diet, a strict liquid diet often is observed for the first 7 to 10 days. Consume lemon, grapefruit, celery and pineapple juice during this time. Juice fasts should always be monitored by a health professional as the low calorie count can be dangerous if mismanaged. Repeat the juice diet every few weeks to help achieve rapid weight loss. Follow this diet with a properly balanced diet.
All Fruit and Low-Calorie Diet
-
After the juice diet the patient can observe a fruit diet for up to four days. During this phase of the diet the patient can have three meals of fleshy fruits such as mangoes, papayas, oranges and grapefruits. After the patient has consumed the fruit diet, he should move onto a low calorie diet that pulls from three major food groups, including lean meats, such as turkey, fish and chicken, as well as nuts, fruits and vegetables. Drink water regularly, at least six to eight glasses a day.
Foods to Avoid
-
When trying to lose weight the patient should stay away from high calorie, high fat foods until regular exercise can be observed. Chocolate, cheese, cream, and fried meals should all be avoided. High carbohydrate foods and those with simple starches such as breads, potatoes, honey, sugar and syrup should also be cut out of the diet.
