Have you ever wished you could wash away the pounds? Well, one soap bar claims to do just that, to literally help you lose weight with every shower. Now, if you're thinking the notion sounds a little fishy or if your skepticism is telling you this is too good to be true, you might just be right.

    • While there may be a few other types of this so called weight-loss soap on the market, the primary soap--and the one met with the most skepticism--is called
      Aoqili Defat Soap. The Aoqili company purports that the soap can actually penetrate the skin and react with fat molecules to reduce and reshape your body. They claim that their product can do all this because of its unique seaweed ingredient that detoxifies skin and flushes fat cells of water and lipids. They also say that their product tones skin as well with the bars additional aloe vera ingredients. The soap, which comes in bar form, is produced in China and is sold on Amazon.com and some herbal medicine websites.

    The Research

    • There is no verifiable scientific research to substantiate that the soap can help its users lose any significant weight.

    Expert Insight

    • According to Diets in Review, a dieting website, their is no medical evidence that confirms the company's lofty claims and that the product is not a real diet option. However, the bar can be used as an aloe vera soap to help tone your skin.

      Other websites such as Diet Spotlight are also skeptical of Aoqili Defat Soap and state that some men and women may experience allergic reactions to ingredients inside the soap. They continue by saying that there are also no weight loss success stories where the product is sold.

    • According to Diets in Review, the company says the soap must be massaged into the skin during showers and baths for three to five minutes at a time and children are not to use the product.

    • Guangxi Aoqili Co., Ltd. is the official name of the Chinese company that produces the soap. It is based in Guangzhou and specialize in large scale household chemicals in addition to cosmetics. However, the company, which was founded in 1996, is better known for its popular herbal toothpaste that doesn't use fluoride to protect its consumers from cavities.
