Side Effects of Adipex
Adipex, commonly known as Adipex-P, is a medication that assists with weight loss, along with a nutritious, low-calorie diet, behavioral counseling and regular exercise. The medicine is intended for obese individuals who have not been successful with weight loss through traditional exercise and diet. There are several side effects that are possible with taking Adipex-P.-
Minor Side Effects
-
There are some minor side effects that are associated with Adipex-P. These side effects are not considered to be harmful, in general, and tend to subside rapidly. They are anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, itchiness, dry mouth, bad taste lingering in the mouth, constipation, diarrhea, tremors, headache and dizziness. If these side effects intensify or persist for a while, however, you should notify your doctor.
Severe Side Effects
-
Severe side effects of Adipex-P are also a possibility, although not extremely common. Should you notice signs of severe side effects of the medication, you should get emergency medical help. These side effects include abnormal behaviors or thoughts, confusion, disorientation, restlessness, uneven or rapid heartbeat, swelling of the feet or the ankles, passing out, lightheadedness, chest ache, shortness of breath, and raised blood pressure (with symptoms like problems with concentration, blurry vision, extreme headache, seizure, and numbness).
Allergic Reactions
-
Allergic reactions can also occur with Adipex-P use. They are also considered to be serious side effects and require emergency medical attention. Some allergic reactions to watch out for include having a hard time breathing, breaking out into hives, and swelling of certain body parts (such as the face, tongue, lips and throat).
Caution
-
Adipex-P is not an appropriate medication for everybody, for safety purposes. Some people who should not take this medicine include those with glaucoma, those with hardened arteries, and those with hypertension. People with allergies or sensitivities to phentermine hydrochloride (or any other medications that are capable of stimulating the nervous system) also are advised strongly against taking Adipex-P.
Withdrawal
-
Some individuals that cease taking Adipex-P after an extended period of time might experience some negative withdrawal symptoms, such as having difficulty sleeping, severe exhaustion, and depression.
