Metabolism Booster Diet

Losing weight on a diet can be a difficult and frustrating challenge. In some cases, you may be able to loose weight quicker by speeding up your metabolism. In addition to exercise, which builds muscle and in turn revs your metabolism, there are certain foods you can eat that contain natural ingredients that have been shown to boost metabolic rates. With a healthy, balanced diet and exercise, these foods can help you shed the pounds quicker.
  1. Green Tea

    • Green tea has two ingredients that help speed your metabolism, packing a double punch with each cup you drink. The first ingredient is caffeine, which speeds up your heart rate, in turn, increasing your metabolism. Green tea also contains the chemical EGCG, which speeds up neurological function, also speeding up metabolism and increasing brain function. Green tea is also though to have disease-fighting properties. Drinking between 3 to five cups a day, or taking green tea supplements can help you burn up to an extra 70 calories per day.

    Omega 3s

    • Omega 3s are a fatty acid found in fish, nuts and some other foods. Even though they are a fat, they can actually help you lose weight by speeding up your metabolism. Studies show that omega-3s affect leptin, a hormone that controls how your body burns or stores calories. By reducing leptin, your metabolism is increased, helping you lose weight. Omega-3s are also thought to be good for your heart and help brain function. Salmon, tuna, mackerel, lake trout, sardines and herring are all good sources of omega-3.

    Hot Peppers

    • Capsaicin, a chemical found in hot peppers (which makes them spicy) such as habanero, jalapeno and cayenne can actually speed up your metabolism by increasing your heart rate. Studies show that spicy foods can increase your metabolism by up to 25% for up to three hours after you eat the meal.
