Exercising is an important part of a weight-loss program. It will help reduce body fat, burn calories and help you maintain your ideal body weight once you reach it.

    • Exercise has several benefits, and, according to the Cooper Institute, regular physical activity is associated with reduced total body fat, weight loss or maintenance of the ideal body weight.

    Significance

    • The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states you need a high amount of physical activity to lose weight unless you reduce the amount of calories you’re consuming.

    Amount of Exercise

    • Aim for at least 200 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week to lose weight.

    Moderate Exercise

    • Walking fast, doing water aerobics, riding a bike, pushing a lawn mower or playing tennis are some examples of moderate-intensity exercises. You can talk at this level.

    Vigorous Exercise

    • Jogging, playing basketball or swimming laps are examples of vigorous exercises. At this level, you will breathe hard and fast and you will be able to say very few words.
