Fasting Diet Tips

Fasting is a fabulous way to detox your body, get rid of toxins, and lose stubborn weight. By going on a healthy fast, you are giving your digestive system a break. Many not only find that they are shedding pounds, but feel lighter and more energetic.
  1. Fasting Diet

    • With a vast number of fast diets on the market, it can be overwhelming to know how to choose the one that is right for you. A basic healthy fast is one of fruit and vegetable juice. You can also mix in protein shakes. Though limiting, there are actually wonderful fruit combinations and smoothies you can try. Make a breakfast by blending a banana, strawberries, ice and apple juice in your blender. Try lime and mango, as well blueberries and pineapple. Experiment with different fruit.

For lunch and dinner, make yourself gingered carrot soup. Just don't add any of the milk. Broccoli can be boiled and blended with its boiling water. Add a few drops of hot sauce for some spice. Spices and herbs are great to mix in with smoothies and soups.

    Nutrients

    • Take a daily multi-vitamin while you are fasting. Choose a brand that is specific for your gender. If you know that you don't eat enough of a specific food, then look into taking supplements. Vitamin A is found in lots of leafy vegetables. If its been a long time since you've eaten a salad, take a daily pill. Vitamin B helps in restoring nerves and brain functions. For those who are about to go into menopause, be sure to take this vitamin because it helps with hormone production. Ask your doctor what nutrients would be right for you.

    Tips

    • You can expect to go through times where you are hungry during your fast. Take a minute to figure out if you are dehydrated. The body many times sends signals to the brain that it's hungry when in fact it needs more water. Drink at least 14 glasses of water a day on your fast. Go for a walk around the block to get your mind off your hunger. Sometimes anxiety causes us to eat to self-medicate.

Do not engage in rigorous exercise. When you are on the fast diet, you are eating fewer calories than normal. Any strenuous activity could cause you to faint or get dizzy. Refrain from sunbathing. The sun could contribute to you becoming dehydrated. People who have a medical history of diabetes, hypoglycemia, kidney disease or cancer should not be on a fast diet. Only plan your fast for a couple of days. Anything more than 10 days can cause you medical problems.
