Not many things in this life are guaranteed. One thing that is guaranteed however is, if you overeat and/or live a sedentary lifestyle, and simply try wish your excess weight away, it's not going to happen. On the flip side, there are ways to lose to lose weight that are guaranteed, but they require you to make a lifetime commitment to dietary changes accompanied by a daily exercise routine. The methods are simple, but dedicating yourself to following them may not be.
  1. Exercise Daily

    • This may seem like common sense, but many people do not incorporate it into their lives. The bottom line is if you want to lose weight, you have to move. Thirty to 60 minutes a day is all you need, and you don't have to kill yourself in a gym to see results. In fact, low-impact aerobic exercises are more effective for burning fat and calories. Exercises such as walking, biking and swimming are terrific for losing weight. If you are just beginning, start out with three times a week and gradually work up to four or five sessions a week.

    Drink Water

    • Replace calorie-filled, sugary and carbonated beverages, such as soda or some juices, with a bottle of water. Every time you make the switch, you can save yourself calories. Depending on the number of high-calorie beverages you drink in a day, this one trick can really add up in your favor and help you lose weight. In addition, drinking a glass of water before each meal will help fill you up, reducing the amount of food you will eat at each sitting.

    Eat Frequently

    • There is a huge misconception among many who want to lose weight. They believe that if they don't eat anything, they will lose weight. Quite the opposite is true, though. If you starve yourself, you shift your metabolism into reverse, and your body begins to get its nourishment from your muscle. What you need to do is eat five or six small, nutritious meals a day. Start out with a healthy breakfast of oatmeal and a piece of fruit. Three hours later, enjoy a cup of low-fat yogurt topped with almonds. Two hours later, eat a turkey sandwich on whole-grain bread with a slice of cheese and an apple on the side. Continue this for the day and not only will your metabolism be flying high, burning fat and calories instead of muscle, you will also have a constant feeling of satitety, preventing cravings from sabotaging your efforts.

    Increase Your Fiber

    • Eating processed foods such as white rice, white breads and cakes is the equivalent to pouring sugar down your throat. It may taste good, but it has no real nutritional value. Instead, eat whole-grain breads and brown rice, foods that are rich in fiber. These foods help keep you full, do not cause such tremendous spikes in your blood sugar levels, and help keep your inside plumbing working properly.
