In this day and age of television and high-speed Internet, we are absolutely drowning in bizarre diet ideas and "lose weight quick" diet promises. One of the craziest I've heard yet is the human tapeworm diet, which involves ingesting a tapeworm to aid in weight loss.

    • A tapeworm is ingested as an egg. Once inside, the egg will hatch and the worm will be hungry. As the individual eats, the worm will eat all the food the person ingests before digestion, resulting in the body's inability to absorb any calories. The tapeworm digests the food itself, disposing of it. It's as if the individual is eating absolutely nothing.

    Obtaining a Tapeworm

    • There is no easy way to acquire a tapeworm online. This is good news, because this method of weight loss seems potentially dangerous. A tapeworm is a type of parasite. Most individuals strive to rid their body of parasites, not infect themselves with parasites. If you're still interested in ingesting a tapeworm, you can eat a flea or munch on some animal feces. If those thoughts don't work for you, try eating bad fish at a sushi bar.

    • It's important to understand that if you do somehow get your hands on a tapeworm, you can only use this method of weight loss for 5 weeks. That means you have the unsatisfying procedure of getting rid of the tapeworm. Removal depends on how large the creature has grown. Some detox systems will effectively remove the tapeworm. If you're concerned about a detox cleansing system working, place a bowl of warm milk parallel to your face. The worm will begin to crawl out of your stomach. As the creature does, reach in and pull it out. If the worm begins causing health problems, surgery will be required.

      It's true, ingesting a tapeworm will effectively help you lose weight, but it's a rather disgusting idea and means going through a lot of trouble to remove it. It is nearly impossible to obtain a tapeworm in the United States without doing something disgusting. It is an effective method of weight loss, but it is not safe and I would advise against it.
