Grapefruit & Green Tea to Lose Weight

Few diet trends have the health benefits and staying power of grapefruit and green tea. Previously considered a fad and a dubious dieting method, a new study has validated claims that fresh grapefruit is an effective weight loss aid. Green tea has similarly been found to be helpful in weight loss, just one small example of its numerous health benefits.
  1. Grapefruit Study

    • Researchers headed by Ken Fujioka at Scripps Clinic in California have discovered that the chemical properties of grapefruit lower insulin levels and help control appetite, which can lead to weight loss.

    Adding Grapefruit to Your Diet

    • The most popular method is to include half a grapefruit with your breakfast or drink a glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. This can be limited to breakfast or included with other meals.

    Green Tea Study

    • A 1999 study conducted at the University of Geneva found that green tea has thermogenic properties and helps promote fat oxidation. A study published in the January 2005 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that the catechins in green tea can help reduce body fat and prevent obesity.

Adding Green Tea to Your Diet

    • Like other teas, green tea can be consumed at any time. However, unless specifically labeled as caffeine-free, a serving of green tea may contain more caffeine than that in coffee. Green tea leaves can be reused up to 3 times and caffeine content has been found to decrease significantly with each brew.

    Caution

    • Both grapefruit and green tea can react adversely with certain medications. Always consult a doctor prior to beginning any new diet program.
