However, women should not try to lose pregnancy weight quickly; instead, they should focus on recovering and getting to know the new baby. The Weight Control Information Center says that moderate physical activity is fine, but women should wait four to six weeks before doing high-intensity workouts. Failing to wait can slow the healing process and cause complications.
The Mayo Clinic recommends light exercises, such as walking with your baby, swimming and using an exercise bike. Hard movements like jumping should be avoided unless cleared by a doctor.
Exercising in short sessions can also be beneficial, as it gives a woman time to increase stamina.
If you are breastfeeding, feed the baby before any workout sessions to avoid discomfort.
