Harmful Effects of Hydroxycut

Hydroxycut is a diet supplement used in weight reduction. The product comes in pill form, drink packets and ready to drink supplements. Hydroxycut claims to speed up your metabolism, curb hunger and provide energy boosts. It is claimed to be the number-one selling diet supplement sold in over 70 countries. According to the FDA, a recent study has found Hydroxycut to be associated with a number of liver injuries. The FDA has notified consumers and indicated that they should stop using the product. Fifteen Hydroxycut products have now been recalled.
  1. Rapid Heart Rate

    • The amount of caffeine in Hydroxycut can cause a rapid heart beat. In people with heart-related problems, this can be a harmful side effect. Those with anxiety problems may already have an increased heart rate so this side effect might have the ability of making anxiety issues even worse. Some people have reported restlessness and insomnia which can also be contributed to a rapid heart rate.

    High Blood Pressure

    • Hydroxycut has been shown to raise blood pressure in certain individuals. When using any diet aid, it's important to monitor your blood pressure with your doctor or with an at-home testing device. High blood pressure can lead to heart disease or stroke, so be careful when taking a diet aid that has been noted to produce these side effects.

    Headaches & Dizziness

    • Headaches, dizziness and lightheadedness have been reported with the use of Hydroxycut. The cause could be from the caffeine in the product, or one or a combination of the herbal ingredients in it as well. Dizziness and lightheadedness can be a potentially harmful side effect since it could cause falls, or difficulty driving or operating machinery and equipment. Blurred vision has also been reported and can cause headaches and dizziness.

    Liver Injuries

    • The FDA has announced a recall of Hydroxycut products because of the reports of liver injuries, jaundice and high liver enzyme levels that can lead to liver failure. Twenty-three reports of liver injuries and one death prompted the recall. What is not known is the specific ingredient or combination of ingredients that might have led to this critical complication. More research is needed to pin down why Hydroxycut products are negatively affecting the liver.

    Recalled Hydroxycut Products

    • The FDA has asked consumers to immediately stop using Hydroxycut products and return them to the place where they were purchased. The FDA also asked consumers to monitor their health status carefully after using Hydroxycut and to report to their physicians any serious adverse conditions that might arise. Additionally, they indicated that consumers and health professionals should report any such findings to the FDA MedWatch reporting program online.
