Emagrece SIM Side Effects

Commonly known as the Brazilian diet pill, Emagrece Sim is promoted as a natural herbal weight-loss tablet. Its marketers claim it contains a detoxifying and cleansing formula that improves bowel function and also includes a fat burner and appetite suppressant. The United States Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about this product because it can contain three drugs.

  1. Drugs in Emagrece Sim

    • Emagrece Sim may contain the prescription drug fluoxetine hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Prozac. Prozac is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and bulimia. Emagrece Sim can also contain the prescription drug chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Librium, used to treat anxiety and to control symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. Additionally, a drug called fenproporex has been found in Emagrece Sim. This is a stimulant the FDA has not approved for use in weight-loss products.

    Prozac Side Effects

    • Prozac has common side effects of anxiety or nervousness, abnormal bleeding, decreased sex drive, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased perspiration, insomnia and weakness. It also can cause loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea and diarrhea. Additionally, Prozac interacts with certain other drugs, and has been linked to suicidal thoughts and behavior in children.

    Librium Side Effects

    • Librium has common side effects of drowsiness, headache and unusual weakness. It also can cause clumsiness and lack of coordination, confusion, dizziness and lightheadedness.

    Fenproporex Side Effects

    • Because fenproporex is identified during urinalysis as a positive match for amphetamines, some people taking Emagrece Sim have encountered problems with drug screenings. For instance, the Miami Herald reported in 2005 that three women had failed pre-employment drug screening at Baptist Health hospital after taking the pills. Like all amphetamines, fenproporex can be addictive, and may be dangerous for people with high blood pressure or other cardiovascular problems.

    Warning

    • People who take Emagrece Sim for weight loss are probably not expecting either the intended effects of these drugs or the side effects. Physicians may find it difficult to diagnose symptoms without knowing which drugs the person has been ingesting. Additionally, the ingredients in Emagrece Sim are of unknown origin and unknown quality.
