Is Dexatrim Max Safe?

Dexatrim Max is a diet supplement designed to aid in weight loss. Although Dexatrim's ingredients have changed over the past few years, it has contained ephedra and phenylpropanolamine, both of which have been taken off the market.
  1. Ingredients

    • Dexatrim Max contains about 50 mg of caffeine per dose as well as cocoa and green tea. Other ingredients in Dexatrim Max include vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, zinc, manganese and chromium.

    Indications

    • Dexatrim is only available over the counter and is not recommended by the FDA or most doctors. Dexatrim is meant to be taken once daily in the morning or afternoon with a glass of water. Because of the caffeine in Dexatrim Max, it is not recommended to take the supplement at night.

    Considerations

    • Although in the past Dexatrim Max has contained ingredients that were later proved harmful, Dexatrim maintains that the newest form of the supplement has no harmful ingredients.

    Types

    • There was also a Dexatrim Caffeine-Free Max supplement available on the market that contained phenylpropanolamine. When Phenylpropanolamine was taken off the market, so was the caffeine-free version of Dexatrim. Dexatrim now has two caffeine-free alternatives available: Dexatrim Natural and Dexatrim Evening Control. These supplements do not contain either caffeine or phenylpropanolamine.

    Warnings

    • Do not take more Dexatrim Max than is indicated. When you purchase a bottle of Dexatrim Max, always check the label to make sure you are not purchasing an old bottle, in which case the supplement may contain ephedra or phenylpropanolamine. The most recently released bottles of Dexatrim Max do not contain ephedra or phenylpropanolamine (see Resources). Ephedra can cause stroke, especially in young women.
