How to Use Hand Weights
Hand weights are a popular part of many workout routines because they provide an easy way to add muscle-toning resistance. The equipment is readily available at sports stores and retailers, and can be used at home or in a gym. Plenty of hand weight routines are available on DVD, or you can create your own. It's easy to make hand weights a regular part of your fitness routine.Instructions

1
Warm up before using the hand weights. Even if you're hand weights are relatively light, stretch and prepare your muscles before you start to exercise.
-
2
Target specific areas in your hand weight routine. Follow a DVD program or prepare your own exercise plan with the help of a fitness trainer.
-
3
Take controlled breaths as you exercise. Inhale during the easy part of the movement, and exhale as you strain. Don't hold your breath.
-
4
Maintain good posture while using your hand weights. If you feel your posture deteriorating, pause your exercise routine and reposition your body.
-
5
When you're finished your hand weight routine, cool down. This will allow your muscles to gently return to a resting state.
