Choose a belly dancing DVD. Having a DVD will help you tremendously in understanding the subtle movements and rotations of your body. There are many companies and individuals that produce belly dancing DVDs. Start slowly. As always, check with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine. It takes time to become skilled at belly dancing. Belly dance about 30 minutes, 3 days per week to start. Gradually increase the length of time you belly dance until you're belly dancing for about 1 hour every day.

Stick with it. The Mayo Clinic states that belly dancing will burn as many calories per hour as walking or biking (see Resources). If the changes in your body seem to be happening at a slower pace than you would like, don't give up. It takes time to lose large amounts of weight.
