How to Lose Weight on the Hay Diet

The Hay Diet is a food combining diet that was first developed by Dr. William Hay in 1911. The premise behind the diet is that by eating the right foods at the right time, we can speed up our metabolism and aid digestion. Over the years, dieters have successfully lost weight by following the Hay Diet.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate certain food groups. Eat starches and sugars at different times than your protein choices. You should wait 4 hours between protein meals and starch meals.

    • 2

Eliminate processed foods from your diet. The body has a difficult time digesting these products and they will contribute to slowing down your metabolism. Stick to whole grains that have not been through processing.

    • 3

Eat mostly fruits and vegetables. You can mix the two and make up most of your meals using these foods. Protein sources and starches are to be eaten in small amounts.

    • 4

Reduce the amount of milk and milk products that you consume. The Hay Diet advises against milk, stating that it does not combine well with other food groups.

    • 5

Plan to eat three times a day. When following the Hay Diet, time your meals 4 hours apart over the course of the day. The timing of the meals is as important as the foods that you combine.
