Now that you have been following your diet and exercise plan religiously, the weight is dropping off. The only problem is you have nothing to wear. If you alter your clothes, you won't have to invest in a new wardrobe.Instructions

Pay attention if your weight loss was directed at a particular part of your body. If you are altering a dress and now have a much smaller waist but only a little bit smaller hips, you are going to have to take more out of the waist area than the hip and thigh area.

2
Recruit some help. One of the best ways to see where you need to alter your clothes is to put them on inside out and start pinning them where you want the new seam to be.

3
Get the right equipment. You can't expect to alter an entire wardrobe by hand. A quality sewing machine, quality scissors, pins and a decent iron are all musts. Other things that could come in handy include a measuring tape, fabric markers or a mannequin.

4
Look for pleats or darts. Professionals use both to hide alterations. Sometimes taking something in from the back or front is better than from the main side seams.

5
Remember to baste your seams first. This will allow you to quickly pull out the sewing if it is not in the right place. Try on your clothes to see if you like how they fit, then make whatever other adjustments need to be made and baste again. Do not use tight stitches or finished edges until you are sure the garment fits right.

You also can decide where to sew by using clothes that fit you well as a guide. For example, if you have two shirts that are the same style, turn them both inside out and lay the smaller one on top of the larger one. Take a clothing marker and trace the silhouette. This will give you a guideline.
