Where does the undigested food pass for eventual elimination?

Undigested food passes through the large intestine, also known as the colon, for eventual elimination. After being partially digested and absorbed in the small intestine, the remaining food material enters the large intestine. In the colon, water and electrolytes are absorbed, and the undigested matter gradually becomes more solid, forming stool. The colon stores the stool until it can be eliminated through the rectum and anus during a bowel movement.
